The Stroke Awareness Training Course is designed for healthcare professionals, carers, and community workers to provide essential knowledge and skills for recognising, responding to, and supporting individuals affected by strokes.   • Introduction to Stroke: Overview of what a stroke is, including definitions, types (ischemic, haemorrhagic, and transient ischemic attacks), and how strokes occur.
  • Understanding Risk Factors: Examination of the key risk factors for stroke, such as hypertension, diabetes, smoking, and high cholesterol. Discussion on how to manage and reduce these risks.
  • Recognising Symptoms: Detailed information on recognising the signs and symptoms of a stroke using the FAST acronym (Face, Arms, Speech, Time). Understanding the importance of early recognition and timely response.
  • Immediate Response and First Aid: Protocols for immediate response to a suspected stroke, including emergency procedures and when to seek urgent medical help. Understanding the role of first aid in stroke management.
  • Impact of Stroke: Exploration of the physical, cognitive, and emotional effects of stroke on individuals. Understanding common complications and long-term consequences of stroke.
  • Stroke Diagnosis and Treatment: Overview of diagnostic tools and techniques used in stroke assessment, including imaging and blood tests. Introduction to treatment options and rehabilitation strategies.
  • Support and Care: Practical approaches for providing care and support to stroke survivors. Techniques for aiding recovery, improving quality of life, and addressing needs such as mobility, communication, and daily living activities.
  • Stroke Prevention: Strategies for preventing strokes through lifestyle changes, medical management, and community awareness. Promoting healthy behaviours and understanding preventive measures.
  • Working with Stroke Survivors: Skills for effective communication and empathy when working with stroke survivors and their families. Supporting individuals in adjusting to life after a stroke.
